NAHANT – The Nahant Council On Aging is receiving a new defibrillator, which will be placed in Town Hall.Emily Potts, who is a COA board member, said the defibrillator is the first one in Town Hall and could be used by lay people.”It’s user-friendly,” she said. “Defibrillators have come a long way. You don’t need a trained professional to use the new machines. This one is self-explanatory and error proof. It doesn’t require any specialized training. We wanted one that could be used without a lot of training.”Potts said the unit would be placed in area in Town Hall where all Town Hall employees could access it.”It’s not just for the Council On Aging,” she said. “We want it to cover the whole building and we’re really happy we were able to do this. Hopefully it will never be needed but it’s nice to know it’s there if it is ever needed.”Even though specialized training is not required to use the unit, Potts said the Fire Department has offered to come in and do some training for the COA and Town Hall employees on how to use the unit.Potts said the defibrillator unit, which cost approximately $1,600, was paid for through a grant from Greater Lynn Senior Services.”It’s always nice to be able to get grants to purchase things we need that aren’t in the town budget,” she said.
