Swampscott pulled out a dramatic 10-9 win over Gloucester Wednesday with Mallorie McGrath singling in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.This one was a free-for-all, with Gloucester taking a 4-0 lead and the Big Blue coming back in a big way with eight runs in the fourth inning. Everyone in the Swampscott lineup managed to drive in a run with either a hit or a sacrifice fly.Gloucester, with Jillian Lukegord on the mound, didn’t go down without a fight. The Fishermen scored two runs in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 8-6. Swampscott (3-2, 3-1) scored in the bottom of the inning to go up 9-6, only to see Gloucester come back with three runs in the sixth to tie the game, 9-9.”It was a battle all game,” Swampscott coach Annamaria Addonizzio said. “It was back-and-forth. Fortunately, we came out on top.”Carissa Roche allowed 10 hits, struck out nine and walked two in the win.Beverly 4, English 3At Beverly, the Bulldogs (0-6) were in this one all the way, scoring all three of their runs in the third inning. The first two came in on walks (Aleasha Despres and Kristi Rebidue walked with the bases loaded to drive in Leanne Paula and Jen Mageary). Valerie Fiaccaprile scored the third on a passed ball.Beverly scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the inning on a combination of walks, hits and passed balls.”We were right in it,’ English coach Alisa Fila said. “They (the Bulldogs) definitely played better in the field. Those timely hits would have been nice.”Despres went 3-for-3. Tiffany Drown (6 hits, 2 strikeouts, 3 walks) took the loss.Fenwick 13, East Boston 0At Fenwick, Allyssa Begin only allowed two hits and struck out 11 for the Crusaders (3-4). The game was up for grabs after four innings, with Fenwick only holding a 3-0 lead. The Crusaders put it away with five runs in the fifth inning and five in the sixth.Sophomore Amanda McInnis (2-for-3, 3 runs scored, 1 RBI); freshman Amy Pelletier (1-for-2, 2 RBI) and sophomore Danielle DiNuccio (2-for-3, run, 2 RBI) led the Fenwick offense.Salem 4, Revere 2At Revere, sophomore pitcher Sara Selevitch had a solid outing for the Patriots (3-4), allowing six hits and striking out five. The game was tied, 2-2, after the first inning with Nicole Perullo driving in both Revere runs on a double. Salem scored the winning run in the third and added some insurance in the final inning.Winthrop 4, No. Quincy 1At North Quincy, Kristen Finn did it all for the Vikings. The senior pitcher allowed four hits and struck out seven in addition to picking up six assists and two putouts.The Vikings scored two runs in the first inning, with the first coming in on a passed ball and the second on an RBI single by Ashley Fiandaca. The score was 2-1 until the fifth inning when Andrea Martucci ripped a two-run single to right-center.Danvers 6, Saugus 1At Danvers, Sam Russo singled in Haley Erickson for the only Saugus (4-2) run. Katelyn DeSimone got the start for Saugus and went three innings before freshman Nicole Lowe came on in relief. The Sachems’ No. 1 pitcher, Ashlee Patterson, did not play due to a missed practice.
