Lynn teen sentenced to prison for drugs

SALEM – A 19-year-old Lynn mother who was arrested with her boyfriend in a Rogers Avenue apartment two years ago with more than three ounces of crack cocaine is headed to state prison for the next five years.Tina Marino, whose last known address is 145 Lewis St., avoided a trial by pleading guilty in Salem Superior Court Monday morning to a reduced charge of trafficking over 14 grams before Judge Howard J. Whitehead. Her confession to the reduced charge spared her a minimum mandatory 10 years in prison. She had been charged with trafficking over 100 grams of cocaine.Whitehead followed the sentence agreement reached by Assistant District Attorney A.J. Camelio and defense lawyer Alison T. Bloomquist.About 4 p.m., on April 3, 2006 authorities executed a search at a third floor apartment at 25 Rogers Ave. where they seized approximately 106 grams of crack cocaine along with scissors, a scale and cash.At the time of the raid, three people were inside the apartment – Marino, her boyfriend Donald Oliver, Jr., 23, and Orlando Vales, also of Lynn.During a pat frisk at the police station, authorities found 20 more grams of cocaine on Marino.Oliver told police he had placed it on her when they entered his apartment.Vales was not indicted by a grand jury in connection with the case.Camelio told Whitehead that the plea concession negotiated was based on Marino’s “participation in the drug enterprise.”He said the main target was Oliver, who is expected to plead guilty next month to drug, ammunition and armed robbery charges. Two weeks ago, Oliver was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for conspiracy to sell crack cocaine last year.In urging the judge to adopt the recommendation, Bloomquist said her client has a 15-month-old son, had been working part-time and has family support. She said it’s “unfortunate she got caught up in this life,” and hoped at the conclusion of her sentence she can move on.Marino has been free on bail since her arraignment two years ago.
