PEABODY – School Committee member Dave McGeney is up for a lifetime achievement award after receiving a unanimous nomination from his fellow board members. The Massachusetts Association of School Committees recognizes individuals who have demonstrated at least 10 years of commitment and dedication to their community either as an elected official or volunteer. And, according to fellow School Committee member Beverley Ann Griffin Dunne, McGeney is the perfect man to fit the bill.”I know how much time and how many days Dave has dedicated to the schools,” said Dunne, who first suggested his nomination to the committee. “I just thought it was the right thing to do. It’s one way of recognizing the work he’s already done and the work he’s going to continue to do.”MASC officials will review the nomination before their annual joint conference in November. If McGeney is chosen as this year’s recipient, he’ll be recognized during the conference, as well as with a personalized award.”I’m terribly surprised and flattered,” said a modest McGeney. “Just being nominated by my peers is really honor enough.”McGeney is currently in his 13th year on the Peabody School Committee. By the time he finishes up this term, he will have served 16 years, a statistic he says he still can’t manage to wrap his head around.
