May 6, 2008 by cstevens

SAUGUS – The search for a new superintendent has been a bumpy ride for the School Committee and it just took a new turn. The search committee has chosen two new candidates to be interviewed and one has a familiar name. After an initial search by the committee narrowed the field to three candidates, two pulled out before they were even interviewed. One took another job and the second decided relocating from Texas was not in her family’s best interest.Superintendent Keith Manville said Richard Langlois of Haverhill would sit down with the School Committee Thursday at 5 p.m. for an interview and Kelly Clenchy of Maine would be in May 12.Clenchy is the husband of Brook Clenchy, the candidate who pulled her name because she took another job. When she was first interviewed Brook Clenchy told the board she had also applied to Winchendon for a superintendent’s position and if she were made an offer she would take the job.Manville said Kelly Clenchy had told his wife if she found a job in Massachusetts he would look for one as well. Brook Clenchy took the job in Winchendon and now her husband will sit down with the School Committee in Saugus.Clenchy is currently the Superintendent of Schools in Maine for school union #87, which is comprised of two K-12 districts within the towns of Orono and Beazie. Before another Clenchy gets their shot at the committee, however, Langlois, an Assistant Superintendent in Haverhill since 1994, will get his turn Thursday.Manville said he believes the committee will announce his successor during its May 15 regular meeting.Although he’s scheduled to leave office on June 30 Manville said there will be some sort of transition.
