SWAMPSCOTT – Town Administrator Andrew Maylor is actively engaged in a job search and looking for employment elsewhere. In fact Maylor has an interview scheduled this evening at 7:30 for the town administrator position in Wakefield. He is one of four finalists.Maylor recently submitted his resume for a city manager position in Oviedo, Fla. Maylor, who was one of 14 semifinalists, did not get the job.Maylor, who is the first town administrator in town, started work Oct. 7, 2002 and his current contract expires in approximately 18 months.”I am very fortunate to have been given the opportunity six years ago to be the first town administrator in Swampscott,” Maylor said. “I have enjoyed really remarkable support from the selectmen I have worked with. “Maylor said he believes he needed to let the selectmen know as soon as possible he is considering leaving in order to give them time to prepare for the future.Maylor said he is considering making a move because he is looking for new challenges, more in line with his skill set.”I think what was required of me as the first town administrator in Swampscott was a good marriage with my skill set,” he said. “But at this point in time it makes sense for me to look at different challenges for my own career progression goals in a larger community.”According to Selectmen Chairman Anthony Scibelli, Maylor told the board he is interested in pursuing job opportunities outside Swampscott.”He is keeping us apprised of the situation,” Scibelli said. “He has informed us he is pursuing other job opportunities but I am confident this will not affect his performance while he is here.”Scibelli said Maylor signed a 5-year contract when he was hired and negotiated a 2-year extension in 2006, which commenced after the expiration of the first contract in 2007.”With a year and a half still remaining on that extension, he informed the board of his interest in exploring opportunities outside of Swampscott,” Scibelli said. “He continues to enjoy the support and respect of the board and we are confident he will continue to place the interests of the town of Swampscott first and foremost on his list of priorities while he evaluates his career choices.”This is not the first time during his tenure in Swampscott Maylor has looked elsewhere for a job.In 2005 Maylor was one of three finalists for the town manager position in Winthrop until he withdrew his name from consideration. It was the second time, in as many years; he had applied for a position elsewhere and withdrawn his name at the eleventh hour. In 2004, Maylor was a finalist for a job in Winchester until he withdrew his name.
