PEABODY – Look no further Ford and Wilhelmina, the models you need are right here at Peabody’s McCarthy School.Over 60 elementary students and some parents strutted their stuff Saturday afternoon in the school’s first ever Fashion Show organized by the fifth grade Student Government Association. The models were decked out from head to toe in some of today’s hottest fashions provided by local Target and JC Penney stores. From casual to formal and sleepwear to beachwear, these students left no fashion trend behind.”JC Penney opened two hours early for our students to roam the store with no one else there,” said guidance counselor Judith Nunez, who helped organize the event. “We told them their style category and they could pick out whatever they wanted.”Target opted to give the students gift cards to come in and purchase their own outfits, complete with shoes and accessories.Nunez said the kids were quite excited and asked if they can up the ante even more by wearing make-up, like professional models do, which some of them did.”It’s just the most amazing thing,” she said. “It’s something we’ll want to do next year.”With a $5 ticket charge, the runway show, featuring a snack bar, raffles, a balloon artist, and a magician, as well performances by the school chorus, served as a way to raise money for students in need at the school, said Nunez.”We’re making a difference in people’s lives where they need it,” she said.Proceeds benefited the McCarthy School Emergency Fund and provide basic necessities, such as food and clothing, to families struggling to make ends meet.
