Into every life, a little rain must fall, and if you’re the Peabody High softball team, that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. When Peabody and Marblehead met earlier this season, the Magicians took it to the Tanners early and by the end of the third inning, led 9-4. That’s when the rain came, and after a 15-minute rain delay, the umpires called the game. That wiped the slate clean. The game was replayed from the start Tuesday and this time around, it was the Peabody bats doing the talking in a 12-4 win at Peabody.”We had our hitting shoes on today,” Peabody coach Butch Melanphy said.Marblehead actually led 4-3 in the fourth, but the Tanners (10-3, 8-3) scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to start pulling away. They added three more in the sixth.Tawny Palmieri (3-for-4, 2 triples, 4 RBI); Lauren Tucker (2-for-4, 2 RBI); Kenia McKeon (2-for-4, double) and Steph Fodera (2-for-4, double) led the 15-hit parade. With the win, the Tanners qualified for the state tournament for the 11th time in the 12 years Melanphy has been with the program.Nicole Wilson (7 hits, 3 strikeouts, 2 walks, 3 earned runs) picked up the win. Courtney Colantuno took the loss.Revere 7, G’ster 3At Gloucester, the Patriots (4-10) scored three runs in the sixth inning to put this one away. Stacey Marino (2-for-4); Jess Simpson (hit, 2 runs scored); Lisa Polsonetti (2-for-4, RBI) and Amanda Morash (2-for-3, 2-run triple) led the offense and Kristen DeCandia made a spectacular catch in centerfield in the fifth inning with the bases loaded to keep the Fishermen at bay.In other softball action, North Shore Tech defeated Lynn Tech at Lynn. Kristina Hynes, Carmen Perez and Noellia Matteo played well for the Tigers (3-12), as did second baseman Jenny Mak.BASEBALLMasco 9, L’field 7At Lynnfield, the Pioneers dug themselves a hole early on, trailing 6-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but they didn’t give up without a fight. Lynnfield scored three runs in the fifth inning on a Vinny DiCesare base-clearing triple to cut the deficit to 6-5. Masco pulled away again with three runs in the seventh inning. The Pioneers had an opportunity to get a few back in the bottom of the seventh; they loaded the bases, but they could only push one run across. Masco turned a double play on a ball up the middle to get out of the jam. There were a few bright spots for Lynnfield. Mario Padovani had a pair of hits, including a solo home run to lead off the third inning. DiCesare, who finished with four RBI, also drove in a run in that inning. Phil Perriello (5 innings) took the loss. Lynnfield is 6-9.Peabody 19, Winthrop 3At Peabody, the Tanners started the game with six straight hits and never looked back, scoring 19 runs on 19 hits. Gary Girolamo (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 3 runs); Danny Mello (3-for-5, 4 RBI); Kevin Skop (2-for-2, 3-run homer); Josh Band (2-for-2, 2 RBI) and Brian Latorella (2-for-2) provided the bulk of the offense.”It was kind of a shocker of a game,” coach Mark Bettencourt said, adding that both teams were 10-4.Mark Linehan picked up the win (his third). Jared Shields came on in relief. Winthrop scored two runs in the second inning on three doubles.BOYS TRACKFenwick 75, Williams 60At Peabody, Pablo Sosa and Bill Harrington were double winners for the Crusaders (2-2). Sosa won the long jump (19-0) and the triple jump (38-1 1/2) and Harrington the 2-mile (11:04) and the 800 (2:16). Mike Francis won the shot put (41-6 1/2); Anthony DiNuccio, the 400 (56.0) and Dan Kennedy, the 100 (11.7).St. John’s 103, CM 33At West Roxbury, the Eagles (3-1) own at least a share of the Catholic Conference title with the win. Julian Gallo won the mile (4:38.4), Brendon Felder of Lynn, the 100 meters (11.5) and Kevin Creedon, the 400 (51.5).Peabody 94, Salem 42At Peabody, the Tanners (6-0) got wins from Dulu Gaye, 300 hurdles (41.7), 110 hurdles (15.8) and long jump (20-11); Nour Shahin, discus (136-1) and shot put (43-0), Mike Berlangieri, high jump (6-4), and Scott Diefenbach, javel
