Alleged Lynn child beater enters not guilty plea

SALEM – Bail for a Lynn woman accused of severely beating her 10-month-old son remains at $1,000, after she pleaded innocent in Salem Superior Court Wednesday.Sabrina Stanley, 19, of 82 Hollingsworth St., #3, Lynn, pleaded innocent to four counts of wanton and reckless assault and battery upon a child, causing bodily injury involving allegations she beat her infant son over a five-week span last year.Bail of $1,000 was set by Judge David A. Lowy, the same amount as previously set in district court.Stanley remains free pending the outcome of her case with conditions she is to have no unsupervised contact with her son and comply with all mandates set by the Department of Social Services. The charges concern allegations between Oct. 1, 2007 and Nov. 8, 2007, when she is accused of severely beating her son, causing three fractures to the child’s left arm, one of which required surgery, two fractures to the right arm, two fractures to the left leg and two fractures to the right leg.The child, now 17 months old, is in the custody of DSS.According to reports, police were informed of the baby’s injuries Nov. 8 when doctors at North Shore Children’s Hospital reported possible abuse after Stanley brought her then 10-month-old son to the hospital telling medical personal that her son was having a problem with his left arm. When doctors X-rayed the infant’s arm, the scans revealed the baby actually had a total of nine fractures on both arms and legs.Doctors ruled out shaken baby syndrome, instead they believe the baby was handled in a violent manner.Stanley lives at the Hollingsworth Street apartment with her sister, mother and her mother’s boyfriend.Stanley told authorities she takes care of her son 95 percent of the time and would never hurt her son.She faces up to two and one-half years in jail on each charge, if convicted. An Essex County grand jury handed up the four indictments against Stanley in March. Her next scheduled court date is June 23 for a pretrial conference.
