May 15, 2008 by jerekson

English shortstop Cara Crowley did everything but line the field Wednesday and her efforts paid off as the Bulldogs defeated Revere, 9-1, at Revere for their first win of the season.Crowley hit two two-run triples to left-centerfield and she doubled for a five-RBI afternoon. She also made a highlight-film play when a batter hit a shot that glanced off the second baseman’s glove. Crowley, who was heading to second to cover the base, grabbed the ball with her bare hand before it hit the ground for the out and promptly doubled the stunned runner off first.Tiffany Drown (7 innings, 3 hits, 3 walks, 6 strikeouts) got the win. Danielle Burke (1-for-3, double, 3 RBI) and Aleasha Despres (RBI) also contributed.Stacey Marino had two singles for Revere (4-12) and freshman Ashley DeFraia did a nice job in relief (6 innings, 1 ER).S’scott 3, Winthrop 2At Winthrop, the Big Blue (9-5, 9-4) scored two runs in the top of the seventh to salvage the win. Sam Perry plated both with a two-run single to centerfield. In the third inning, Katherine Gorham singled in the Big Blue’s first run. Winthrop scored both of its runs in the fourth, with one coming on a Lindsey Barker RBI double. Kirsten Vinal (6 hits, 7 strikeouts, 4 walks) went the distance for the win.Fenwick 2, Williams 1At Peabody, Fenwick (4-10) only had two hits, but the Crusaders made them count. After spotting Williams a run in the first on an error, Courtney Begin led off the bottom of the inning with a double. Amy Pelletier reached on a bunt single and went to second on a ground ball. A passed ball scored the first run, an overthrow to the plate scored the second. Begin got the win (5 hits, 5 strikeouts).Beverly 4, Classical 3At Beverly, the Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to sink the Rams, who had scored twice in the top of the inning to go up 4-3. Hannah Byrne was the bright spot for Classical, going 3-for-3, including an RBI single in the seventh. Meghan Pierre (RBI single in the seventh) and Sam Barker (RBI single in the fourth) also contributed. Jenny Garrity (10 hits, 4 strikeouts, 1 walk, 2 hit batters) took the loss.Saugus 5, G’ster 4At Gloucester, the Sachems (9-7) scored the winning run in the top of the seventh on a Chelsea Cole RBI single between centerfield and right. Kelly Garrity and Elizabeth Shaw singled in runs in the third inning and in the fifth, Lauren Garchinsky doubled to drive in Haley Erickson in a two-run inning. Gloucester came back and tied the game, 4-4. After taking the lead in the seventh, the Sachems had to hang on in the bottom of the inning. Garchinsky gunned the potential tying run at the plate to end the game.Peabody 5, Salem 4At Peabody, the Tanners (11-3, 9-3) rallied from two down in a game that featured some outstanding relief by Nicole Wilson (10-2). Emily Milewska went the first four innings (6 hits, 3 earned runs, 3 strikeouts, 2 walks). Wilson went the final three, allowing no hits and no runs while striking out eight.Peabody scored two runs in the second inning on a Lauren Tucker 2-run homer and two in the fifth on a 2-run single by Steph Fodera. Tawny Palmieri singled in the game-winner in the sixth.
