Lynn police conduct drug sweep resulting in 12 arrests

LYNN – Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted Lynn police in arresting 12 people Monday for narcotics distribution as part of “Operation Summer Slam,” police said.Teams of officers arrested the suspects at various locations throughout the city without incident, according to police.”We intent to take full advantage of the additional local, state and federal resources on hand to aggressively pursue those individuals who have engaged in the sale of narcotics, crimes of violence or illegal weapons possession in our city,” Police Chief John Suslak said. “We plan to continue these efforts indefinitely.”The arrests come on the heels of another multi-agency police sweep one week ago that netted 84 arrests for various crimes in four nights. The stepped-up enforcement was in response to a wave of violence that shook the city two weeks ago when six shootings were reported in three days, leaving one man dead.”I would encourage anyone with information about such crimes to contact the Lynn Police Department, anonymously if they like, so that we can investigate their concerns,” Suslak said. “Where appropriate, we will be asking federal authorities to consider filing charges and/or commencing deportation proceedings against those arrested.”The following people were arrested in the sweep Monday:Jesse Aponte, 35, of 100 Willow St. (homeless shelter), Lynn, distribution of heroin and a drug violation in a school zone.Lamica Davis, 29, of 126 Broad St., Lynn, distribution of heroin and conspiracy to violate drug laws.Joyce A. Johnson, 40, of 52 Myrtle St., Manchester, N.H., two counts of distribution of cocaine and a drug violation in a school zone.Carlos Lopez, 20, 17 Highland Ave., Lynn, distribution of heroin and conspiracy to violate drug laws.James L. Newson, 35, of 16 Parker Ave., Lynn, two counts of distribution of cocaine and a drug violation in a school zone.Cesar I.
