LYNN – It this was a heavyweight fight, the Wyoma-Revere game at Volunteer Field on THursday would have been called in the first round.Wyoma delivered haymaker after haymaker, pounding out 11 hits and three home runs en route to a 14-0, 4-inning win in their District 16 opening round game.”We hit the ball well, had great defense and nice pitching,” Wyoma manager Dan O’Neil said.Balls were flying out of Volunteer Field for Wyoma like they were going out of style.Leading the assault was centerfielder Brendan Tobey, who was 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs scored and two mammoth home runs. Catcher Chris Price also got into the longball act, as his 2-run shot in the first keyed a big rally.”We have a very good hitting team,” O’Neil said.Pitcher Cam O’Neil just missed hitting one out as well, as he opened the game with a triple off the top of the fence in center. He later scored on Price’s opposite field bomb to right.Dan Donovan walked with two outs and went to second on a wild pitch. Lucas Harris delivered him with a double and scored on Eric Brazell’s single to right. Brazell scored on an error at third to give Wyoma a 5-0 lead after a half inning.O’Neil started for Wyoma and ran into a little trouble as Tommy Portrait tripled to center with two outs and Jacob Vetree walked. But Chris Charido went down looking to end the inning.Wyoma added to its lead in the second as O’Neil led off with a single and Tobey launched a rocket over the left field bleachers to make it 7-0. WIth one out, Katey Burt reached on a error and moved to third on a walk and a wild pitch. Two more walks, the latter coming to Brett Erelli with the bases full, forced in Burt to make it 8-0.Revere threatened again in the second as Brian McNitt walked and went to third on Mike Ciambelli’s single to right. But O’Neil whiffed the next three batters to end the inning.After a scoreless third, Wyoma put the game out of reach in the fourth by sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring six times.Pinch hitter Chris Donovan’s 2-run single scored Harris and Paul Helas for a 10-0 lead. O’Neil’s third hit of the game added two more runs before Tobey went yard again, blasting a shot well over the centerfield fence to close the scoring.
