PLAYER OF THE YEARLEXI CULKEENBishop FenwickThe Catholic Central League all-star’s performance propelled the senior to the New England meet in Saco, Maine, in both the shot put and discus ? Third in the states and all-states in the shot put with a personal best of 37-8 ? In the discus, Culkeen threw a personal best of 114-6 and finished second in states and sixth in the all-states ? Regardless of her finish in the New Englands, Culkeen will be going to Holy Cross on a full scholarship to throw.COACH OF THE YEARDAVE JELLERSONBeverlyIn 18th season as head coach of Beverly girls track, Jellerson keeps getting his runners to perform ? Panthers recorded another perfect regular season (7-0) and earned fourth consecutive NEC title ? Beverly, in the midst of a 32-meet winning streak (hasn’t dropped a meet since 2004 against Salem), outscored its opponents by an average of 64 points ? Overall, including cross country, indoor and outdoor track, Jellerson’s squads have won 92 straight meets and 10 straight NEC championships.The TeamMONICA ADLER, Beverly – Sophomore was mile runner for NEC champion Panthers ? Her time of 5:09.75 broke a school record set in 2004 and earned her acknowledgement as NEC all-star ? Third in Coaches’ Invitational, first in NEC meet, and fourth in Class B meet ? Ran 2:21 in 800 meters and was second leg of school-record-breaking relay team.LAUREN ATKINS, Saugus – Sophomore standout was named MVP of the Sachems’ 5-2 season ? Called “most talented jumper we’ve ever had” by coach Kevin Fontanella, Atkins had a personal best in the long jump with a distance of 16-7 1/2 ? Went 6-1 in the event for the year and collected the most points on the team ? Lost by one inch in long jump in NEC meet and finished third in 200 ? Participated in 100 meters (13.5) and was fastest member and anchor of 4×100 relay team.BRIANNA ANDERSON, St. Mary’s – Anderson, an eighth-grader, faced high-school competition up to five years older than she was, and was named a CCL all-star ? Qualified for states by running a 13.0 100-meter dash in her last race of the year and was also a participant in St. Mary’s 4×100 relay team.MADELINE BISSAILLON, Bishop Fenwick – Senior earned her third consecutive state championship in the discus ? Seventh in shot put at states and will compete at the New Englands alongside Culkeen.DESIRE DELEON, Salem – Named team MVP due to her performances in 100 (13.1) and 200 (27.2) ? Freshman was anchor in 4×100 relay team and finished fourth in 100 in NEC meet ? First in freshman-sophomore meet in 100.BIANCA FOWLER, Lynn English – Highlighted her second season as Bulldog captain by qualifying for Division 1 state meet in 100, 200 and 4×100 relay team ? Sophomore finished as her team’s high scorer and placed second in 50 meters at NEC meet.JENNY FUCILLO, Winthrop – Sophomore ? NEC all-star ? NEC champ in 100 hurdles (16.8) ? Fourth in Class D in 300 low hurdles (49.1) ? Fifteenth in pentathlon.NICOLE GIAQUINTO, Winthrop – Senior ? NEC MVP and all-star for second consecutive year ? Long jump and 200 champion in NEC meet ? Class D state champ in the 200 and second in Class D in the long jump ? In all-states, Giaquinto placed fifth in 200, sixth in long jump, and ninth in pentathlon ? Her 154 points were most in Viking history, and she also set the school record in the 100 and 200.MEGHAN GOODWIN, Lynnfield – Second in NEC in 400 (61.2) ? Freshman qualified for states, where she placed seventh ? Her coach, Mike Mischo, said, “Her time in the 400 was quite an accomplishment for a freshman.
