The Wyoma girls softball team moved one step closer to a rematch with Swampscott in the District 16 Little League softball finals thanks to a 14-7 comeback win over Marblehead on Monday at Lynn Woods.The defending district champs found themselves trailing 7-6 through four innings, but used a five-run fifth and three-run sixth to prevail.Wyoma will now play against West Lynn American/Pine Hill today at Flynn Field (5:30) in the losers’ bracket finals. The winner will then have to beat Swampscott twice to take the crown.”The kids came alive and showed what they’re made of,” Wyoma manager Jen Cash said. “It was a great team effort. Everyone contributed.”Wyoma led 1-0 through one and added two more runs in the top of the third. But Marblehead had a five-run third inning to grab the lead. Rachel McKay’s 2-run double was the big blow in the explosion. Wyoma retook the lead on Caitlin Calef’s bases-clearing double in the fourth.Marblehead responded with two runs to grab a 7-6 lead before the wheels fell off in the fifth. Wyoma then added three runs in the sixth to put the game away.Tatiana Doucette was 3-for-5 with two RBI to lead Wyoma’s offense. Shanna Zeramby was 3-for-4 while Amy Blocksidge had a pair of hits and RBI and got the win on the mound. Frankie Galeazzi was 2-for-4 and had a great catch in centerfield.”We had one bad inning and that opened things up,” Marblehead manager Jay Epstein said.BASEBALLWinthrop 7, WLA 4At Grabowski Field in Saugus, errors proved too much to overcome for the Americans as a boatload of self-inflicted mistakes led to all of Winthrop’s offense.”The errors just killed us,” West Lynn manager Steve Bain said. “They did in both the games we lost.”Cory Lazurek went the first three innings for the Americans with Ryan McDonald hurling the final three and pitching well. Wilmer Pena had a couple of hits for West Lynn.Winthrop moves on to play the loser of today’s Wyoma-Swampscott game in the losers’ bracket semifinals.Lynnfield 22, Revere 3 (4 innings)At the Forest Avenue Fields in Swampscott, the game was tied 2-2 after one inning before Lynnfield’s offense came alive, busting the game open with 13 runs in the fourth inning.Steve Carangelo pitched the first three innings to get the win and also belted a grand slam in the big fourth inning.Pat Scanlon added three RBI and Jordan Roper had a 2-run double in the second.Lynnfield, which played four games in six days, is off until next Monday, when it will play either Saugus American or Saugus National.”Overall, we played very well,” Lynnfield manager Kevin Canty said.
