SAUGUS-In the ever-growing, always-changing realm of World Series Park construction, a new addition is about to get under way.Park creator Bob Davis said test holes have been dug, utility access locations decided and enough funds have been raised to get the construction of the catch-all building under way.The new two-story building will house the parks concession stand, handicap restrooms, an equipment storage area and a scoring/announcing area. The plan is to tuck it just behind the backstop area. It will, Davis said, go a long way toward completing the park as well as providing some necessary services.Funding for the construction has been obtained in the same manner as it was for the rest of the park: completely through pledges drummed up by Davis.”People are really responding to help us raise money for our much needed building,” Davis said. “Their generosity is much appreciated. We are the recipient of people wanting to honor a past or present loved one or merely to be part of a worthwhile project.”Davis has a knack for getting people to respond. When he came up the idea to build the park about five years ago, he had a host of skeptics. When he decided there should be a tot lot, bleachers, dugouts and other accessories added to the field as well people thought he was asking for too much.It seems that he cannot ask too much, because people continue to give. It could be his unassuming manner or his work ethic – Davis is at the field nearly every day almost year round.Whatever it is, he has accomplished every goal set for the park and now he is poised to break ground on the new building. He is, however, quick to add that while enough funds have been raised to get the project started, more funding is needed for the completion of the project.”There’s still the opportunity to be involved in this project,” he said.To have your name or name of a past loved one memorialized on the permanent building plaque, a minimum donation of $100 is requested. Such donations are tax deductible since World Series Park is a registered non-profit organization.Donations to the World Series Park Building Fund should be sent to World Series Park, 8 Holden Ave. Saugus, MA 01906. Checks should be made payable to World Series Park. For any questions please contact Bob Davis at 781-233-4555.Davis said while he expects the ground breaking to be quite soon the work will likely continue into the fall and early winter.”A dedication ceremony will be held upon completion of the building,” he added.
