Though it will be taking part this coming weekend in the Regional 16’s tournament in Gorham, Maine, it was not the way that the Lynn squad wanted to enter it. For the second straight year, Lynn fell to Revere, 7-2, at Bowser Complex, yesterday.Because it had lost one of its two contests on Saturday, Lynn had to win to force a deciding game in the double-elimination tournament.Revere earned a spot in the Regionals and an automatic berth in the 16-year-old World Series next month.Revere scored twice in the bottom of the first off starter Cathia Hernandez on centerfielder Kristina Gravellese’s two-run single. She issued one-out walks to shortstop Ashley Defria and pitcher Briana Holmes. Both runners advanced on an infield out, then came around to score the game’s first runs on centerfielder Kristina Gravellese’s single.Meanwhile, Lynn had four baserunners in the first four innings – all on walks by Revere’s Briana Holmes – but couldn’t score.”She was excellent,” said Lynn coach Judy Bower of the Revere righty. “We weren’t able to do anything against her (until the sixth). We really just didn’t have our bats ready today.”Revere added a run in the fourth when Britany King scored as part of a double steal, and knocked Hernandez from the mound in the fifth after touching her up for two singles. Midway through Stephany Lento’s at-bat, Bower went with reliever Tiffany Drown, but Lento greeted her with a single to score the fourth run. Another walk, to Sam Rubella, made it 5-0.”It was a tough day for Cathia (Hernandez),” said Bower. “She gave up too many walks. Tiffany (Drown) got us out of the jam (in the fifth), and pitched well.”In the sixth, Lynn catcher Katie Collins singled (with Kathryn Halloran pinch-running). Halloran took second on an infield out and third on an error and scored on Jen Mageary’s base hit. After Revere scored two more in its half of the sixth, Lynn finished the scoring in the seventh when Fallon Gaudet, who had bunted her way on, scored on an infield out.”We had three hits in the seventh. but couldn’t make anything out of them, except that one run, ” Bower said. “Hopefully, we’ll have another shot at Revere in the Regionals.”Lynn split its two games with Lawrence Saturday, losing 3-2 in the morning and coming back to win, 7-5, in the afternoon.Trailing 5-4 entering the bottom of the fifth in the afternoon game, Lynn scored twice to take the lead. Collins led off with a single, and when the ball bounced past the left fielder, ended up on second (with Halloran pinch-running).Drown blooped a double to short right and Halloran beat the throw to the plate to tie the score, and Drown, who took third on the play, scored on an infield out. Hernandez drove in the seventh run with a single. In the opener, Lawrence scored the winning run in the top of the eighth, but Lynn almost pulled it out in the bottom of the inning after recording two quick outs.Collins blooped a single, and Shauna Drown pinch-ran. Hernandez followed with a single to center and both baserunners moved up a base on a wild pitch. But that’s as far as it went.
