LYNN – A group of teenage boys shot a woman in the head with a BB gun as she was driving down Broadway near St. Jean’s Cemetery on Tuesday night, police said. The unidentified victim was driving with three other people in the car when suddenly a BB penetrated the window and struck her in the side of the head at about 7 p.m., according to police. The woman stopped the car and backed up, looking for the perpetrator, when her car was allegedly shot at again. As she called police from her cell phone, approximately five young suspects took off running toward Susan McIlwain’s backyard on Mayfair Street.McIlwain was watering flowers when she asked one boy why they were cutting through her yard, which touches the cemetery.”He said they were walking back from the mall,” McIlwain said. When the other boys saw that McIlwain was confronting one of them, the rest ran through other neighboring backyards after jumping fences.McIlwain had no idea the kids allegedly shot at a car just a minute before.”I totally dismissed it,” she said. “They were very polite. I work for the school department, I know punks.”Police interviewed several Mayfair Street residents after the attack and many said about five teenage boys were last seen running down Clairmont Street.McIlwain says one suspect was wearing a Tracy McGrady basketball jersey.Police continued to investigate the incident Tuesday night.
