REVERE – Police arrested a man Sunday after his alleged attempt at robbing a Citizens Bank failed miserably, according to police.John McAleer, 49, of 178 Webster St., East Boston, was arrested and charged with attempted robbery at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Police say he was arrested in the same shopping plaza around 9 p.m. Saturday for shoplifting at Blockbuster Video.According to Revere Police Lt. Joseph Cafarelli, McAleer approached a teller at Citizen’s Bank inside the Stop and Shop supermarket at Wonderland Plaza wearing a mesh hair net that was partially covering his face.McAleer allegedly hollered at the teller, “I need money! I need money!”Police said all the bank’s money was locked away at the moment and the teller immediately locked herself in a back room and called police.”I don’t even think they took him seriously,” Cafarelli said. “They kind of laughed at him.”After the teller failed to return with the cash, McAleer allegedly ran out of the supermarket only to be arrested minutes later.
