LYNN – A Lynn police officer working for the Governor Highway Safety Bureau’s drunken driving initiative Monday only had to pull out of the police station’s driveway to spot a drunken driver, police said.Police allege Raul Vasquez, 48, of 48 Hamilton Ave. was driving down Washington Street without his headlights on shortly before 10:30 p.m.Despite the fact that an oncoming car allegedly flashed its high beams at Vasquez, he proceeded with his lights off toward Andrew Street, where he almost drove over the traffic island, police said. After he was pulled over by an officer, he failed several field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol, operating to endanger and a marked lanes violation, police said.
