PEABODY – A lightning strike caused about $25,000 in damages Wednesday to a West Peabody home, according to Fire Lt. Dale Kimball.Firefighters responded to 8 LeBlanc Drive shortly before 5 p.m. in the height of a thunderstorm, which also caused lightning to strike a building in Lynnfield around the same time.According to Kimball, the Peabody strike created a five-by-five foot hole in the roof of the single family home. The heat burned into the walls of a nearby office but put itself out before firefighters arrived, he said.Most of the damage was contained to the ceiling area, he said, adding that firefighters used thermal imaging cameras for about an hour to make sure no fire spread.In Lynnfield, lightning struck the Boston Sports Club at 425 Walnut St. but caused no damages and resulted in no power outages, firefighters said.
