Girl injured after being hit by truck in Lynn

LYNN – A 9-year-old girl riding a bike on North Federal Street was hit and seriously injured by a vehicle belonging to McGrath Construction of Lynn Friday afternoon.According to Lynn Police spokesman William Sharpe, the young girl was on her bicycle and traveled out of her driveway and into the street when she was struck.”The child was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries and the scene was secured,” he said. “Lynn Police traffic investigator John Meaney is investigating along with investigators from the State Police Accident Reconstruction team.”A small pink and purple bike lay in the street in front of 62 Federal St., as police interviewed witnesses and the driver of the vehicle.According to one witness, who asked not to be identified, the girl rode her bike into oncoming traffic. Another bystander said the girl does not live at 62 Federal St.The driver of the vehicle, who didn’t give his name, was visibly shaken by the accident and said he is a father and a grandfather.
