LYNN – About all that was needed on Sunday at Gannon Golf Course in the final round of the Gannon Ladies Classic was for the sky to fall, as it would have been a perfect ending to one of the craziest days seen in a long time at the venerable Lynn layout.Having already endured a lengthy rain delay on Saturday, the teams once again had to deal with the wrath of Mother Nature as severe thunderstorms forced a nearly four-hour delay in play with the leaders on the final nine Sunday. The lengthy delay resulted in the final groups playing the 18th hole in conditions that could only be described as pitch-black. Through it all, the team of Cheryl Mennino and Lorraine Mills persevered to a final-round 62 and a 2-day total of 18-under par and a four-shot win over Nancy Gheringhelli and Tara Friedman.Mennino and Mills shot the two best rounds of the tournament with their pair of 62’s to break open a logjam of a leaderboard on Sunday. The day began with six teams within four shots of the lead. The big movers of the day were Cathy Breslow and Laura Schromm, who carded a stellar 64 in the challenging conditions to jump a handful of teams and finish third alone at 11-under.Patty Roderick-Gina Mantino turned in rounds of 65-67 to finish at minus-10 and alone in fourth place.
