REVERE – The Melrose man who allegedly strapped a fake bomb to his chest and tried to rob the Bank of America in Mahoney Circle has been indicted by a grand jury, authorities said Tuesday.Bryan Michael Sullivan, 50, of 97 Spears St., Melrose, has been indicted on charges of armed assault with intent to rob, possession of a hoax bomb and assault with a dangerous weapon, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.Sullivan allegedly strapped his body with road flares – but said they were explosives – when he walked into the bank demanding cash on the morning of June 18.Police said Sullivan approached a teller and handed her a note asking for $40,000 cash and threatened to blow up the bank if she didn’t comply. The note also demanded the teller to meet him in the parking lot with the money, according to a police report.”Read it and do whatever it says,” Sullivan allegedly said. The teller responded, “Do you want me to do what it says?”Sullivan replied, “Yes, give me the note.”The teller went into the back room as if to get the money, but called police instead.Moments later, Revere police burst into the foyer of the bank with their guns drawn and demanded Sullivan get on the ground.”Given that information (that the suspect had a bomb), responding officers confronted the suspect at gunpoint,” Police Capt. Michael Murphy said on June 19.The captain said the attempted robbery did not appear to be well planned, and pointed out that the suspect drove to the bank in his own vehicle.”This sounds like a desperate guy,” Murphy said. “I don’t know what he was thinking.”Jake Wark, spokesman for Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley, said Tuesday that Sullivan’s next court date has not been set.
