Winning the Tedesco Invitational Four Ball championship once is an accomplishment. Doing it back-to-back is almost unheard of, but that’s what the team of George Wattendorf and Joe Tibbetts did Tuesday at Tedesco Country Club.Wattendorf, who lives in Swampscott, and Tibbetts, who lives in Scituate and plays out of Widows Walk, fought their way through the 64-team field, the rain and six rounds of golf to become the first team to win the title back-to-back since Don Graves and Paul Kearns did it in 1988 and 1989.The invitational started Thursday and was scheduled to end on Sunday, but lightning started around 3 p.m., forcing the final round to be suspended after the seventh hole with the two teams, Wattendorf-Tibbetts and Peter Dalton of Swampscott and Myles Lane (Woburn CC), even. Play resumed Tuesday on the eighth hole.”The defending champs won,” Tedesco pro Bob Green said. “That’s very unusual. It’s only happened one other time.”Wattendorf-Tibbetts, who finished the tournament 1-under, won 3-and-2.The match was a battle from the get-go with Lane and Dalton one-up after three thanks to Lane’s birdie on two and Dalton’s par on three. Wattendorf-Tibbetts went up by one, but Dalton birdied the 10th hole to even the match again. Tibbetts birdied the 11th hole to put his team one-up. Wattendorf parred the 14th hole to bump the lead up to two and the defending champs sealed the win on the 16th hole.
