LYNN – A Lynn man is facing serious charges after he allegedly was caught breaking into a 74-year-old man’s home and assaulting him after saying he was a police officer.Seth Barnes, 28, of 11 Lyman St., was arrested Thursday and charged with breaking and entering while placing a person in fear, unarmed robbery on a person over age 65, impersonating a police officer, assault and battery on a person over age 60 and larceny over $250.After Barnes was arrested he allegedly told police, “I only broke into one house.”Police say John Devaney, 74, arrived at his Woodlawn Street home shortly before 6:30 p.m. when he heard noise coming from the attic.Devaney went into the attic and allegedly noticed Barnes who was wearing a brown vest. Barnes allegedly said he was a police officer, according to a police report.Moments later, Barnes allegedly snatched a suitcase and pushed past Devaney and ran out of the house. Police arrested him moments later after neighbors led them to his location.Police confiscated a suitcase Barnes was allegedly holding along with several items from Devaney’s home.
