East Boston teens arrested for Revere rampage

REVERE – Two teenagers are held without bail for crashing into three vehicles in Mahoney Circle following an attempted robbery and police chase Tuesday night, authorities said.Christian Alvarado, 19, of 202 Paris St., East Boston and Edgar Pleitez, 18, of 137 London St., East Boston, were arrested and charged with attempted armed robbery while masked, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of a car accident with injuries.Police initially charged the teens with armed robbery while masked, but the charge was amended to attempted robbery because a police officer happened to interrupt the crime, according to Suffolk County District Attorney spokesman Jake Wark. The ordeal began at about 8:30 p.m. when a Revere police unit pulled behind a vehicle that was parked in the right lane of Revere Beach Parkway westbound with the door open, police said. Before the officer could get out, another officer in an unmarked unit arrived. The car quickly fled the scene leaving another teenage male on the side of the road, according to police. He turned out to be the robbery victim, police said. The unmarked police car trailed the fleeing vehicle, a Nissan Pathfinder SUV, while the marked officer stayed with the young man at the scene. The unmarked unit followed the SUV into Mahoney Circle, where it struck the rear of a car stopped in traffic. It then struck two more vehicles causing serious damage to all vehicles involved. A tire from the SUV was torn off in the process. Two people were taken to the hospital. At least two suspects, later identified as Alvarado and Pleitez, allegedly ran out of the vehicle and a foot chase with police ensued near Dunkin’ Donuts at the corner of Shirley Avenue. One suspect was immediately apprehended by the plain clothed officers while the other was taken into custody by uniformed officers a few minutes later. The robbery victim told police there were three suspects, but the third person was never found despite an exhaustive search using numerous officers and an MBTA Transit Police K-9.It was unclear exactly how the robbery occurred, but initial reports were that the victim knew the suspects. Police said the suspects were wearing masks and had a knife. The victim positively identified one of the suspects as the person who robbed him.Wark said a Chelsea District Court judge revoked the suspects’ right to bail at their arraignment Wednesday because they violated the terms of bail from a previous case by getting arrested Tuesday. The suspects were arrested together in May in East Boston for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
