Peabody police investigate equipment thefts

PEABODY – Police are investigating two incidents of pricey maintenance equipment thefts over the weekend.On Friday at 10:42 p.m., police were called to St. John’s Church at 17 Chestnut St. for a breaking-and-entering in progress.The caller stated three black males were seen fleeing in a black pickup truck after breaking into a work trailer on the property, police said.According to police, two locks on the trailer were cut and over $4,000 worth of items went missing. The items were a $2,000 compacter, $500 power generator, $400 pressure washer and $200 in tools.Police searched the area for the suspect’s vehicle but were unable to locate it.On Monday at 7:04 a.m., police were called to a work site at 300 Andover St. after a larceny of roofing equipment occurred, police said.Over the weekend, police said someone stole 42 cans of glue valued at $3,150 and 12 to 15 rolls of flashing worth $2,150.Police are investigating whether the thefts are connected.
