REVERE – Operators of a pleasure boat rescued a windsurfer in his early 20s Tuesday after his sail broke off on Revere Beach, according to Revere Fire Capt. Chris Bright. The fire department launched a water rescue shortly after 1 p.m. when calls came in for a windsurfer in distress in front of the State Police Barracks.”We could see the sail about a half a mile or three quarters of a mile out on the ocean,” Bright said.Firefighters launched a jet ski and boat but couldn’t find the victim when they arrived at the sail.Bright said he later learned the windsurfer’s sail had broken and he began drifting into sea. The surfer, whose identity remains unknown, decided to swim toward the jetty near Elliot Circle when a passing pleasure craft called the “Green Hornet” picked him up, Bright said. The pleasure craft met with a Coast Guard boat, which brought the victim to the Point of Pines Yacht Club to be evaluated. He did not require medical attention, Bright said.
