Square One Mall to hold ‘Movie Under the Stars’

SAUGUS – Parents can revisit their youth and children can experience a bygone phenomenon when the Square One Mall turns back the clock to become a drive-in theater Saturday.”Simon Malls has been successful doing ‘Movie Under the Stars’ in other locations and we really just wanted to bring it here,” said Lauren Higginson, marketing manager for the mall.With its high cliffs and sprawling parking lot Square One Mall is a perfect location for the venue, Higginson said.”It’s a great layout and the mall is so accessible,” she said.During the afternoon the mall will host a Family Fun Zone in the Essex Street portion of the parking lot. The event serves as a fundraiser for Pop Warner and will include inflatables, activities and concessions with all the proceeds going to Pop Warner.Higginson and Mall Manager Susan Yee approached the Board of Selectmen earlier this year about holding the summer event. Higginson said the mall had wanted to reach out to a local organization to give it a helping hand and “Pop Warner seemed like a good fit.”The fun zone opens at 3 p.m. and cars will be let in for the movie between 7:45 p.m. and 8 p.m. The movie itself starts at 8:30 p.m.Higginson said there is limited space for cars but there will also be room for seating so families can bring a blanket or beach chairs to watch “Bee Movie.”To accommodate both blanket surfers and those in cars Higginson said the movie will be played over a public address system and there will also be a radio station to tune into.”It will be a fun time,” Higginson said.
