LYNN – A top-level sex offender on the run from the law for five years faces charges in District Court today following his capture by Virginia police, assisted by Chief Probation Officer Donald January’s warrant apprehension unit.Edwardo Bueno, 34, was convicted in 2001 for indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and assigned Level Three sex offender status. He received a two-year suspended sentence and was on probation in November 2003 when he fled Massachusetts on the eve of his scheduled appearance in Lynn District Court for a probation violation hearing following a drug arrest in Salem.Police tracked him through New York and then Florida where Florida Department of Law Enforcement Investigator Daniel Allen got a lead on Bueno’s whereabouts after interviewing Bueno’s relatives.Officers and troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension team tracked Bueno through Maryland and the Washington D.C. area. He was arrested last Thursday in a Portsmouth, Virginia restaurant where he once worked.In addition to the probation violation charge, Bueno faces a charge of failing to register as a sex offender. He is also wanted in New Hampshire for a probation violation related to a 2002 charge.
