LYNN – The city’s Health Division and the Executive Office of Public Safety’s Byrne Grant program will hold a training session for landlords and property managers offering tips on how to keep illegal activity off of rental properties. The program is the sixth of its kind to be offered since 2006 and will take place Sept. 18 from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the community room of the Housing Authority at 10 Church St.Over 240 landlords and property owners representing more than 5,900 rental units in the city have attended the full day program in the past.As a result of the program, 70 percent of landlords have vowed to make changes in the way they manage their properties, and another 28 percent said they would probably modify their practices.Free and open to the public, the Health Department urges property owners and managers from all areas of the city to attend.Community Resource Officer John Muschette said reactions from landlords who have completed the course are consistently strong and positive.”Landlords and managers overwhelmingly agree the training increases their confidence in screening rental applicants and their ability to recognize warning signs of drug activity,” he said. “As a problem solving tool, this training has proven to be an important part of reclaiming and protecting residential neighbors.”For more information and registration information, call Muschette at 781-595-0450.
