PEABODY ? A 55-year-old Peabody man remains hospitalized this evening after being shot by police when he allegedly pulled a gun on them.
Philip Noto of 60 Washington St. was shot in the abdomen and taken to Salem Hospital following the incident that took place around 1 p.m. today at his home. His condition is unknown at this time.
According to Essex County District Attorney Spokesman Karen Dawley, today’s incident stems from Noto’s arrest Sunday for allegedly threatening his wife.
Noto was arraigned on charges of threatening to commit a crime in Peabody District Court this morning, and Judge James O’Leary ordered him held on $750 cash bail.
Noto posted bail and, upon his release, returned to 60 Washington St., where another fight with his wife ensued, Dawley said.
Police were called to the scene and, in the process of arresting Noto for the second time in as many days, he allegedly pulled a gun, forcing an officer to fire his service weapon. Police have yet to identify the officer, or say whether he has been put on administrative leave.
