Peabody crash injures woman

PEABODY – A woman was badly injured Monday when her car apparently crossed the center line on Lowell Street and slammed head-on with a Ryder truck shortly after 11:30 a.m., police said.Suzanne Coughter, 45, of 161 Newbury St., Peabody, was transported by MedFlight helicopter to Beth Israel Hospital. The helicopter launched from a field at Peabody High School.Hospital spokeswoman Rhonda Mann said Coughter’s condition was unavailable Monday night.The driver of the Ryder truck, Glenn Jalbert, of 10 Goodridge St., Peabody, was not seriously injured.Police told reporters Coughter’s 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier was driving eastbound when it crossed into westbound traffic near the intersection of Edgehill Road.Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate Coughter from the vehicle.A State Police reconstruction team is investigating the accident.
