SWAMPSCOTT – A Swampscott man, who police say was extremely intoxicated when he was arrested for drunken driving Sunday, was also charged with bribery after he tried to give an officer $1,500 to release him, police said.George V. Danielyan, 62, of 1008 Paradise Road #1J, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a vehicle, a marked lanes violation, resisting arrest and bribery of a public employee.Shortly after police arrested Danielyan, he was taken to Salem Hospital to be treated for a laceration to his face he allegedly suffered when struggling after being handcuffed by police. Danielyan also has a history of heart problems. While at the hospital, Danielyan allegedly asked Officer Michael Frayler over 15 times why he was in the hospital, and the officer answered because he had been arrested for OUI.”Additionally, Mr. Danielyan asked me if I liked tequila and when I responded ‘no,’ he stated that he did and he had been drinking it prior to being pulled over,” Frayler wrote.Dainelyan stayed at the hospital for most of the night. At one point, he allegedly told Frayler, “I will give you $1,000 to let me go.””I shook my head in disbelief as I had just told him he was committing a crime,” Frayler wrote.Danielyan allegedly responded, “Not enough? How about $1,500 and I won’t say anything if you let me go?”Shortly before Danielyan’s arrest, Frayler said he activated his blue lights for Danielyan to pull over after observing him drive 21 mph in a 35 mph zone on Paradise Road near the Vinnin Square shopping center. Danielyan allegedly continued driving for one tenth of a mile before he stopped.”I observed the (vehicle) to brake heavily numerous times for no apparent reason and observed that the operator continually put their high beams on and off,” Frayler wrote.Police said Danielyan was so drunk he couldn’t place his car into park and the vehicle was slowly rolling when Frayler approached. After Frayler said he detected a strong odor of alcohol on Danielyan’s breath and bloodshot eyes, Danielyan told him he only drank “one beer.”Police said Danielyan repeatedly apologized and took a very long time to produce his license, despite the fact that it was inside a clear plastic window of his wallet.Frayler asked Danielyan if he spoke English due to his Russian accent and he responded, “Yes, I love America.” When asked to recite the alphabet he allegedly said, “A-B-C-D” then the number “8” and the letter “N.”Danielyan was arraigned in Lynn District Court on Tuesday and released on personal recognizance. He’s due back in court Oct. 20 for a pre-trial hearing.
