PEABODY – For the very first time, the City Council and the Rotary Club will host a joint charity golf tournament with hope that, together, they can achieve more.”We expect a great turnout for this golf event,” said Rotary President Steve Morad. “We’ve had separate events in years past and believe we can do much better together than we can individually.”The event kicks off on Monday, Sept. 22 at The Meadows of Peabody Golf Course.”It’s an early registration at 7:30 a.m., so golfers will want to show up early with our shotgun start going off at 8 (a.m.),” said Councilor Ted Bettencourt, Jr.For a fee of $125, golfers can play a round of 18 holes and enjoy a buffet lunch by The Outback Steakhouse.Proceeds from this year’s event will be divided equally between several charitable organizations. The City Council will donate to their Drug Awareness program, whereas the Rotary will use their earnings to benefit Haven from Hunger and to offer college scholarships for Peabody Veterans Memorial High School graduates. Many prizes and contests throughout the day will entertain the crowd. And, to keep the competition interesting, Warren Waugh, president of the Lyon-Waugh Auto Group, recently announced his donation of a 2008 Acura MDX as a hole-in-one prize. There are still many slots available for any individuals or groups wanting to sign up.
