MARBLEHEAD – Superintendent of Schools Paul Dulac informed the School Committee Thursday night that a Level III sex offender is working in town.According to a police Web site, Level III offenders pose "a potential high risk to the community and are a threat to re-offend if provided the opportunity."Most have prior sex crime convictions as well as other criminal convictions. Their lifestyles and choices place them in this classification. Some have predatory characteristics and may seek out victims. They may have refused or failed to complete approved treatment programs."Dulac did not identify the man.The superintendent, who was first informed of the possible situation Tuesday, told the committee members, "It’s taken us quite awhile to find out what’s happening here." He said he met with Police Chief Robert Picariello earlier in the day and they consulted the Sex Offender Registry.
