Boys Soccer Roundup: Lynnfield holds off Bishop Fenwick

Lynnfield withstood a late comeback attempt on the road against Bishop Fenwick Saturday to notch a 2-1 win.After a scoreless first half, Lynnfield (2-3-1; 0-2-0 Cape Ann League) got on the board five minutes into the second on a goal by Steve Knox.Five minutes later, Knox’s cross to George Levantakis put Lynnfield up 2-0. It was freshman Levantakis’ first varsity goal.Fenwick (2-2-0; 2-1-0 Catholic Central League) cut the deficit in half with about 10 minutes to play when Conor McCormack’s pass to Andrew Dinuccio in the box led to Dinuccio’s score.Fenwick kept the pressure on but was unable to notch the equalizer, as Lynnfield held on for the win.Dracut 5, St. Mary’s 2At Dracut, the shorthanded Spartans stuck with Dracut before succumbing late.St. Mary’s (3-3-0, 2-1-0 Catholic Central League) trailed 2-0 at halftime before Eric Donaghy scored early in the second on Alex Glover’s pass.Moustafa Ragab scored on a direct kick from Glover to make it 3-2, but Dracut put the game away with two late goals.St. Mary’s was down four starters entering the game and lost two more players by halftime, forcing coach Al Jackson to use forwards Donaghy and Julian Yurawsky in the backfield.”We played a good soccer team,” Jackson said. “I was extremely pleased with the effort.”Xaverian 3, St. John’s Prep 1At Danvers, the Eagles trailed early and couldn’t recover against Catholic Conference rival Xaverian.St. John’s (1-2-1; 0-1-1 CC) goal came on a penalty kick in the first half by Zach Hathaway.Xaverian led the whole way, including 2-1 at halftime.Eagles goalkeeper Steve Pasinski had nine saves.
