LYNN – An Estes Street man is expected at a Lynn District Court hearing today for an attempted rape that his victim described to police as “a scene from a Halloween horror movie.”Karl Hackney, 43, of 11 Estes St., Lynn, was arrested and charged with attempted rape, indecent assault and battery, armed burglary, malicious destruction and other assault charges shortly after 3 a.m. Friday.According to a police report, the victim told police she barely knew Hackney before the attack, but recognized him as a former friend of her sister. The female victim was walking with another woman down Autumn Street before the assault.She said Hackney asked her about her sister when he suddenly attacked her “without warning.”Hackney allegedly grabbed her and held her against a house as she struggled and her friend ran inside a home to call 911. The victim then noticed Hackney’s pants were around his ankles, police said.The victim briefly got out of his grasp and she tried to run away, but Hackney allegedly grabbed her and dragged her into the street.Police said Hackney took her behind a parked car when several DVDs fell out of his pockets. With his pants still down, he allegedly pulled off the victim’s shirt and tried to take off her bra.The victim’s friend ran from the house and began yelling and screaming to get attention from neighbors, police said.With Hackney slightly distracted, the victim managed to run into the house while he chased after her.Her friend began fumbling with the key to lock the door as Hackney began banging on the door and tried kicking it in, according to police.The women had to place a table in front of the door, police said.”(The victim) described the event as a scene from a Halloween horror movie,” Sgt. Timothy Magner wrote in a police report. “They just managed to get into the hallway of the house and slam the door closed when Hackney got to the door and began pounding and kicking it.”Police said Hackney struggled with two officers before he was arrested. Officer Andrew Beaver sustained a cut to his left finger from a broken crack pipe that Hackney was allegedly clutching in his hand. Officer John Harkness sprained his left index finger in the struggle.Hackney was arraigned Friday in district court where Judge Stacey Fortes-White ordered him held without bail until a dangerousness hearing, which is scheduled for today.Hackney was previously arrested Aug. 12 for violating a restraining order and disorderly conduct. Fortes-White ordered him held on $500 bail in that case.
