MARBLEHEAD – Local schools have posted fliers warning of the presence of a Level 3 sex offender who is employed in town.Richard Shattuck, 67, whose address is listed on the flier as 31 River Road, Lynn, is employed by a landscaping firm, according to police. An address of 100 Essex St. was given as his place of employment. Shattuck was convicted of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and assault on a child with intent to rape in 1988. Level 3 is assigned to sex offenders who are a threat to re-offend if given an opportunity.Police Chief Robert Picariello said Shattuck is working at one site in town as far as police currently know.”As long as he is working in town we feel it’s possible that people could encounter him,” the chief said.Superintendent of Schools Paul Dulac informed the School Committee of the situation Thursday night. At that time he did not identify the man, but told the committee he had been working to piece the facts of the situation together for the past two days, meeting with Chief Picariello and Police Lt. Matthew Freeman. He asked parents to be patient, but advised them to tell their children to be very careful.Lt. Freeman visited the administration offices and each of the town schools Friday to discuss the situation and distribute fliers.
