LYNN – Two men were arrested Monday after a fight over a bag of food left one man unconscious, police said.Vincente Rosario, 36, reported to police on Friday, Sept. 19, that he spent five nights in the hospital after being beaten in the Lynn Vocational Technical Institute football field after he and three other homeless men fought over a bag of food.Rosario claimed Hugo H. Macario, 33, and two other men were hanging out in the field Sept. 14 around 8:30 p.m. when they asked him if he had any food.Rosario said he told them he didn’t have any food or money when the men allegedly began punching him and said Macario struck him in the head with a rock.According to police, Rosario said he woke up approximately 15 minutes later and noticed $100 was missing from his pocket.Rosario said he managed to walk to South Common Street where he hailed a cab, which took him to Union Hospital, where he was hospitalized for the next five nights. On Monday night, police were informed the three suspects, including Macario, were standing on the corner of Commercial and Summer streets.Macario told police the men were hanging out at the Lynn Tech field following a day of work. He said they worked for a man who paid them in food. All three suspects said they were about to eat when Rosario walked over and grabbed a bag containing the food.Macario said the three men tried to get the food back when Rosario started pushing them.Police said Macario admitted to striking Rosario in the face with a rock but said he did it in self defense. Macario was placed under arrest for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. As police were questioning the men, Rosario approached them walking down the sidewalk with a trash bag, police said.Police eventually arrested Rosario because the three men said he threw a glass bottle at Macario’s head during the fight. Rosario was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
