Odd sign prompts calls to police

SWAMPSCOTT – Swampscott police have fielded several calls over the past week about a man holding up a bizarre sign.According to Detective Sgt. Tim Cassidy, the man was holding up a sign on Humphrey Street that read, “Why rape?”Cassidy said the man is a 53-year-old Lynn resident who was doing nothing illegal, despite the fact that it offended and scared some passersby.”Some of the joggers were pretty frightened by the guy,” Cassidy said.Police said the man was discovered holding the sign between 6 and 7 a.m. on Friday and Tuesday.
