Peabody ordered to shut down Carriage House Motel

PEABODY – After years of being the location of various arrests by Peabody Police, the infamous Carriage House Motel has been ordered to shut its doors by city officials. One might assume that it was last week’s large drug bust of over $16,000 worth of Oxycontin that drew the last straw, but it was a complaint filed by a guest staying at the Route 1 establishment.Several fire, health, safety, and building violations were cited after investigations led by city officials, which brought about the decision to shut it down. Guests have been asked to seek shelter elsewhere.Since hearing the news, one intoxicated resident called police Tuesday night asking police to remove her dog because the motel was closing and she didn’t have anywhere for it to go.And on Wednesday night, another arrest was made. Police responded to a call about a male resident of the motel running around the grounds naked. A second man was found laid out in front of a guest’s room unconscious.
