September 27, 2008 by Thor Jourgensen

REVERE – Emotional ups and downs have defined the past year for Patricia Talbot, but the mother of fallen police officer Daniel Talbot was proud to hear her son’s name read Friday during a somber State House ceremony.Talbot was shot last Sept. 29 during a confrontation with two men. Nearly 20 Revere Police officers and colleagues from across the state packed the Massachusetts House chamber Friday to mark Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial Day by remembering Talbot and other fallen officers.”It’s very emotional but I’m very proud of my son,” said Patricia Talbot.Talbot’s death marked the start of a protracted police search for his killer that concluded with four arrests and disciplinary action against the other officers present at the shooting.”We’re coming up on a lot of bad memories,” said Officer Joseph Rizzuti. “I worked with Danny and what really stinks is knowing he had a great future.”Talbot’s fiancé, Connie Bethel, Talbot and three other officers were drinking beer on the Revere High School field in the early morning hours of Sept. 29 when a verbal confrontation with Revere resident Derek Lodie escalated into an exchange of gunfire.Robert Iacoviello Jr. was charged with Talbot’s murder a month and a half after the shooting. Lodie and two other local residents were charged as accessories. All four entered innocent pleas at their arraignments and are slated to stand trial in February in Suffolk Superior Court.Talbot’s family is sponsoring a pig roast in his memory on Oct. 4 at noon at 80 Broadway, Malden. The long list of fallen officers read at Friday’s ceremony included Gary Twyman of Lynn, murdered in 1995. His mother, Delores Twyman, stood as an officer read his name.Other officers honored included former FBI agent Paul F. Cavanagh, killed in a 1990 plane crash. The Lynn English High School field house is named for Cavanagh.
