Girls soccer: Gambale does it all for Swampscott

Marissa Gambale had a field day Monday, scoring three goals and assisting on another to lead Swampscott to a 4-0 win over Revere Monday at Revere.Gambale owned the game in the first half, scoring at the 7:30 mark, the 17-minutes mark and again at 31 minutes. Sarah Burnham assisted on the first goal, Casey Connolly on the second and Megan Dawley on the third. Jen Cleary made it 4-0 in the second half with Gambale getting the assist.Keeper Tara Nimkar picked up her fifth shut out. The Big Blue are 7-2 with Peabody coming to town on Friday.English 0, Winthrop 0At Manning Field, the Bulldog defense continues to get the job done. Keeper Brittany Goulet notched her fourth shutout in 11 games and freshman Mackenzie Clarke kept the Panthers biggest scoring threat underwraps. English is 1-6-4.Classical 0, Gloucester 0At Manning Field, senior keeper Sochitta Men recorded her second shutout for the Rams (1-6-3), who also had strong play in the middle from senior captain Nikki Kouremanos.”Both teams defensively were flawless,” Classical coach Marcy Durgin said, adding although she would have preferred a win, she was pleased to come away with the tie.Spellman 4, St. Mary’s 0At Manning Field, the Spartans (6-2-1, 2-2-1Catholic Central League) faced the iron of the league and came up short. Spellman is undefeated and in first place.”This was the best team we’ve played so far,’ coach Jim Foley said.”They just outplayed us.Megan Brickley played well in net in the loss.Fenwick 3, Austin Prep 0At Fenwick, Kristin Verrette had two goals and Bianca Gallo added one to help the Crusaders improve to 4-2-1. Lauren Toye-O’Donnell had an assist with Jill Dean and Rebecca Graves combining for the shutout.No. Andover 2, Lynnfield 1At North Andover, the Scarlet Knights led 1-0 at the half and 2-0 early in the second half, but Lynnfield (5-1-1) made things interesting when Jamie Harris scored six minutes later with Whitney Montesanto getting the assist. Lynnfield, which was undefeated going into the game, had a couple of nice scoring opportunities in the second half, including on that rang off the post.Danvers 7, Salem 2At Salem, the Falcons (9-0) qualified for the state tournament. Brittany Russo (13 goals, 6 assists) continued to wield the hot foot with three goals and two assists.Corey Persson had two goals and an assist; Allie Lea, goal and an assist and Liz Burgess, a goal and an assist.Christie Kaczynski and Tess Saunders each had an assist. The Witches (5-4-1) had goals from Janelle Gallant and Jessica Ngo with assists going to Jasmine Bryant and Melissa Ryan.
