Foreclosure workshop Oct. 18 at Revere High

Thor Jourgensen

October 6, 2008 by Thor Jourgensen

REVERE-Homeowners who are facing foreclosure or are worried about it can meet with representatives for major mortgage lenders on Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Revere High School. The foreclosure prevention workshop, sponsored by Neighborhood of Affordable Housing, an East Boston-based non-profit organization, is one of several city-aided efforts aimed at easing the local impact of the national housing crisis. The workshop is free and attendees should bring two months worth of financial information, including bank statements, and two year?s worth of tax filing information.NOAH also offers free clinics every Monday night at 6 p.m. in its 143 Border St. office in East Boston to help homeowners evaluate prevention options and prepare to take steps to avoid or get out of foreclosure. The city began working with Chelsea Restoration Corporation, an organization similar to NOAH, in February. At that time, Chelsea Restoration claimed 358 Revere homeowners faced foreclosure. The agency in December 2007 sent Mayor Thomas Ambrosino a letter indicating that 1,147 other local homeowners are on the brink of seeing their low introductory mortgage rate escalate.Foreclosure has become a problem and an expense for the city as inspectors field calls from neighbors concerned about vacant homes and the attendant problems of rodents, damaged piping and neglected swimming pools.Like NOAH, Chelsea Restoration provides homeowner counseling and help in navigating the foreclosure prevention process. Following the Oct. 18 workshop, NOAH will continue helping participants work with lenders. To reach NOAH, call 617-418-8267.
