LYNN – The man who was stabbed by a 14-year-old girl at a Curwin Circle residence Monday is now a wanted criminal.An arrest warrant has been issued for Alexis Melendez, 26, of 66 Bassett St., Lynn, according to Lynn District Court records.Police say the teenage girl was defending her 20-year-old sister who was being pummeled by Melendez when the stabbing occurred.Melendez suffered a superficial stab wound to the back after the 14-year-old picked up a three-inch knife, according to a police report obtained in court. He was being held overnight at Salem Hospital when he escaped, police said.Melendez is being charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot), domestic assault and battery and assault and battery on a child age 14 or under.As of Tuesday night, he was still on the run.Melendez has a criminal record, which includes a November 2006 arrest for rape and a July 2005 arrest for stabbing a man inside El Caney bar on Baldwin Street. The victim survived.Melendez is described as a black male, about 5-foot-7 and 150 pounds.Police say Monday’s incident began around 8:30 p.m. when the mother of Melendez’ baby, who was identified as the 14-year-old’s older sister, asked Melendez to bring juice and milk to her home at 97 Curwin Circle.According to a police report, Melendez told officers he brought the items to the home and asked to see his child but the mother wouldn’t let him in. He said an argument started and the 14-year-old got involved, came outside with a knife and stabbed him.But the 14-year-old and her 20-year-old sister gave a different version of events.The 20-year-old said Melendez arrived with the items but asked to stay the night at her house, which she declined. However, she allowed him to go inside to kiss the child good night.Instead, she said Melendez rummaged through her dresser drawer and found a condom, which enraged him.Melendez allegedly called her a derogatory name and struck her with a closed fist. He then allegedly kicked her in the stomach pulled her outside, threw her to the ground and continued to punch her.During the fight, the woman tried to push Melendez away and he allegedly bit her in the finger.The 14-year-old then allegedly grabbed a knife and told Melendez she would stab him if he didn’t stop.Melendez then allegedly grabbed the 14-year-old and began punching her in the head and repeatedly kicked her in the stomach. During the scuffle the girl stabbed Melendez, police said.Melendez stumbled to 102 Curwin Circle where a resident called 911.The girl fled in an Acura Integra that was later stopped by police on Myrtle Street, according to police.The 14-year-old girl was taken to North Shore Children’s Hospital overnight. She will be summonsed in Lynn Juvenile Court for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife.)In addition to the aforementioned charges on Melendez’ criminal record, he was also arrested twice in October 2006 for violating a restraining order and once in April 2007 for witness intimidation and assault with a dangerous weapon.
