DANVERS – The Danvers girls soccer team extended its undefeated streak to 14 games Wednesday, knocking off second-place Swampscott, 4-0.If you arrived late, the game was over before you could get comfortable in your seat. It was decided in the first 10 minutes. In the first minute, freshman Corey Persson scored the first of her three goals. At the four-minute mark, Persson struck again. Sophomore Brittany Russo found her on the other side of the field and, in a carbon-copy move, hit her with a through ball that she put behind the Swampscott keeper to make it 2-0.In the 10th minute, Danvers had a corner kick and Nimkar made the save. A Swampscott defender tried to clear it, but Elizabeth Burgess intercepted the clear and beat Nimkar to make it 3-0.Swampscott rallied from the shock and kept bringing the play to the Danvers defense, but Falcon keeper Allison Tivnan came up with several outstanding saves to keep the Big Blue off the board. The second half was the game everyone came to see, with excellent passing and ball control by both teams. In the 58th minute Persson took a throw in half way between midfield and the area and went right to left across the top of the area, spilt the defenders and beat Nimkar to the low left side. Both coaches emptied their benches and the game ended with this score.Danvers moves to 13-0 NEC and 14-0 overall and travels to Marblehead on Friday with an opportunity to clinch the league title. Swampscott drops to 9-4 in the league and will play Friday at home against Winthrop. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Danvers, but, once again, the Falcons are leading the way in the Northeastern Conference.”This is a new team,” coach Jim Hinchion said. “We lost most of our starting 11 and had to build from the back to the front.”Last year we had Caroline Mulholland in the net. This year we are rotating three keepers: Allison Tivnan has started six games and the other two keepers, Maria Uminski and Kasey Kellard, have pretty much split the others evenly,” Hinchion said. The Falcons have only given up 10 goals all year, mainly due to the four talented deep defenders that play in front of the keeper, regardless of who is in net.Kellie Macdonald runs the defense from her sweeper position. Three different players rotate through the two outside back positions, Gabby Vega, Johanna Zecha and Christie Kaczynski.
