LYNN – The man who fled the hospital Monday after being stabbed on Curwin Circle has been arrested on assault and battery charges.An arrest warrant had been issued Tuesday for Alexis Melendez, 26, of 66 Bassett St., Lynn, after a 14-year-old girl stabbed him at 97 Curwin Circle on Monday night.Police say Melendez repeatedly punched and kicked the girl and her older sister, who is the mother of Melendez’ child, when the 14-year-old stabbed Melendez in the back.The mother of his child told police Melendez got upset when he discovered a condom inside her home and began punching her in the face with a closed fist.The 14-year-old intervened by allegedly grabbing a three-inch knife and telling Melendez to leave them alone. Melendez instead attacked the girl by punching her and kicking her in the stomach, according to police, who said the girl stabbed him during the assault.Both the girl and Melendez were taken to area hospitals.The girl will be summonsed to juvenile court for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.Police had sought an arrest warrant for Melendez for assault and battery on a child age 14 or under, domestic assault and battery and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot). He fled Salem Hospital before police could arrest him.According to a Lynn police arrest log, Melendez was booked at about 3:20 p.m. Thursday.Lynn District Court records show Melendez was arrested in July 2005 for stabbing a man inside El Caney bar on Baldwin Street. The victim survived.Melendez was also arrested and charged with rape in November 2006.
