LYNN – More than 300 veterans and active military personnel attended a job and benefits fair hosted Wednesday by U.S. Rep. John F. Tierney at North Shore Community College. The event provided assistance and information on healthcare and employment opportunities, with dozens of government agencies and private companies represented.”Our veterans and active-military and their families deserve comprehensive support in all of their transitional endeavors. Today’s jobs and benefits fair was designed as a one-stop shop for their questions and concerns,” said Tierney, a Salem Democrat.Seeking to help soldiers, veterans and their families through benefits and job service awareness, Tierney formed a Veterans’ Advisory Board earlier this year, comprised of local veteran advocates who serve as liaisons to the community. The advisors assisted the congressman in creating the fair, at which over 40 local businesses and veterans service organizations participated. Visitor attendance topped 350.”While we must ensure veterans have the necessary medical support and treatment, I believe and have long argued that Congress’ efforts must not end there,” Tierney said. “I’ll continue to work with my like-minded colleagues to advance these issues and other important efforts.”Anyone interested in collaborating with the advisory board or assisting the congressman’s efforts on behalf of veterans can obtain the necessary information at http://tierney.house.gov/services/information-for-veterans.
