LYNN – When the high school basketball season gets going in another month or so, there will be a few new faces on the English High boys bench.Mike Carr, an assistant varsity coach in Stoneham for the 19 years, is the Bulldogs’ new assistant varsity coach, according to head coach Buzzy Barton. He replaces Jim Silvio, who left the English program after two years to become the new head coach at Malden Catholic.Carr, who lives in Lynn and teaches in Salem, will play the same sort of role as Silvio, Barton said.”I’ve know Mike a lot of years,” Barton said. “He’s the same type of guy (as Silvio). He’ll be my floor general. During practices and games, he’ll have a big role.”Carr’s father, the late Mike Carr, coached football at Lynn Tech and served as the school’s athletic director.The Bulldogs will also have a new face at the freshman level. Steve Brown, who was on the Classical staff last year, will coach the freshmen.
